This project was filmed on location at China Beach; outside Saigon at a network of Vietcong tunnels, in the hills and mountains around the former DMZ, in the old Imperial City at Hue and in Hanoi. Don Downey, a television journalist, bureau reporter and documentary writer/producer accompanied the Marines to tell their story. Downey worked for four years at the NBC affiliate in Denver as bureau chief and reporter. He owns Sovereign Pictures. Director of Photography Mickey Booz has twenty years experience in film, video and documentary production. His creative eye has garnered numerous awards including Emmys, Tellys and the New York Art Directors Association Award. He has directed and shot live action, documentary and long format programming. Vietnam: Time In The Barrel was filmed on a Sony 600 wide screen digital camera. A hand held Sony DVCAM was used as a second camera for dramatic point of view photography and for scenes requiring sensitivity or presenting difficult access. The story of fathers and sons returning together draws a compelling and intriguing portrait of the Vietnam conflict. These were the men at the front lines, "walking point" and living within 1500 yards of the DMZ. Their stories revive deep-rooted memories and feelings for any American alive during the war. | ||
